News Corp announces California Post launch in New York Post article

The New York Post announced Monday, August 4, 2025 that the company will expand by launching its tabloid style to a new publication to be known at The California Post. “Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated.”  -- Robert Thomson, CEO of The Post’s parent company, News Corp. + + + + + + "The new publication will be headquartered in Los Angeles and feature a robust staff of editors, reporters and photographers dedicated to covering news, entertainment, politics, culture, sports and business — all with a distinctly California perspective." -- New York Post Headquarters will be in Los Angeles. Ex-Google Chief Eric Schmidt buys Aaron Spelling Manor in Los Angeles for $110 million

A French chateau-style property built in the early 1990s for Aaron Spelling on Mapleton Drive, which slightly larger than the White House, and features a bowling alley, wine cellar and a beauty salon with massage and tanning rooms, has been sold to 70 year-old Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, and his wife Wendy Schmidt. Realtor.com reports, "The Schmidts are planning a significant remodel of the house to simplify the floor plan and maximize the energy efficiency of the property, according to the person familiar with the transaction." Aaron Spelling was an American film and television producer and actor. His productions included the television series Family; Charlie's Angels; The Love Boat; Hart to Hart; Dynasty; Beverly Hills, 90210; Melrose Place; 7th Heaven; and Charmed. Migrant from Kyrgyzstan attacked and robbed in South Park neighborhood in Los Angeles

A group of about 40 teenagers on bikes surrounded a migrant while he was in his car. waiting for a red light to change at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Hope Street in Los Angeles. Next, they attacked and robbed the man who stepped out of his car to check for damage after a bottle was thrown at his vehicle. The migrant from Kyrgyzstan suffered a broken leg, and his wallet, passport, and possessions he was storing in his car were stolen. The crime, located in the South Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, occurred about 7 miles east of a flash mob robbery scene at a 7-Eleven that occurred last week at Olympic Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard.   The South Park neighborhood is the home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Staples Center, and the Grammy Museum. Nine firefighters injured in explosion of a CNG-powered semi-truck in the Wilmington neighborhood in the South Bay and Harbor region of Los Angeles

Nine LAFD Firefighters were injured during an explosion, while responding to a vehicle fire in Wilmington. Two of the nine remain in critical condition. The clean-air CNG-powered semi truck (no trailer) contained two 100-gallon natural gas tanks, compressed to over 3,000 psi. Six minutes after firefighters arrived, one of the tanks exploded, causing severe injuries. One of the injured firefighters was air-lifted to a burn center for specialty care. Thankfully, the driver was well clear of the truck by the time of the blast, and found to be uninjured. We remind locals to stay clear of the scene, both motorists and pedestrians. There are currently no active evacuation orders, but an "exclusion zone" with a 500-foot radius has been established to isolate the scene and prevent further injury. Los Angeles pallet fire on 14th St that caused full closure of 10 Freeway

Los Angeles Fire Department: Update Structure Fire; INC#0031; 02:33AM; 1745 E 14th St; https://bit.ly/3udjCbS; Downtown; The fire load in both pallet yards is mostly consumed. Firefighters have successfully defended three exposed commercial buildings from fire extension. The fire impinged the underside of the 10 Freeway and CalTrans is on scene for freeway inspection. CHP has a full closure of the 10 Freeway with traffic being diverted EB at Alameda and WB at Santa Fe. Follow https://cad.chp.ca.gov/Traffic.aspx for traffic updates. The cross arm of high tension wire is down on 14th St with energized lines, LADWP is on scene to handle. LAFD Heavy Equipment operators are enroute to assist with moving the debris to provide firefighters access to the pockets of fire.
