Hurricane Erin causes rip current hazards Thursday, August 21, 2025, at least 10 deaths

Hurricane Erin, as a Category 2 storm, tracked near the East Coast of the United States on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Ten fatalities as of late Thursday ... two people missing. Rip currents created by Hurricane Erin caused hazardous swimming conditions with rescues along much of the east coast of the United States. Over 50 water rescues near Wrightsville Beach and Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Water levels were elevated Thursday, August 21, 2025 along the US mid Atlantic coast and southern New England coast, but are expected to gradually subside on Friday, August 22, 2025.
