‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Camilla Luddington diagnosed with autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s disease
Camilla Luddington, age 41, especially known for portrayal of character Dr. Jo Wilson on the long-running medical drama, revealed she was recently diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism. The disease is also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, Hashimoto's disease and autoimmune thyroiditis, an is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is gradually destroyed by the immune system.
Patients may exhibit signs of hypothyroidism in multiple bodily systems, including, but not limited to, a large goiter, weight gain, cold intolerance, fatigue, myxedema(deposition of mucopolysaccharides in the dermis), constipation, menstrual disturbances, pale or dry skin, and dry, brittle hair, depression, and ataxia (lack of coordination of voluntary muscle movements, including gait abnormality, speech changes, and abnormalities in eye movements).
