Retired St. Louis police office beaten by former colleagues wins lawsuit -- $23M

Luther Hall, a former St. Louis police officer, won Monday, April 15, 2024 after the defendant — one of his former colleagues — failed to respond to a lawsuit over an attack of the police officers, according to court records.  Judge Joseph Whyte of the St. Louis Circuit Court issued a default judgement against Randy Hays, who said he thought the black undercover detective was a protester whil working on the police department's Civil Disobedience Team, aka "riot police".

The riot was a response to the acquittal of former police officer, Jason Stockley, connected to the killing of Anthony Lamar Smith.
