French ANFR orders halt to Apple iPhone 12 sales for breach of European Union radiation exposure limits; Apple disputes

France's Agence Nationale des Fréquences (ANFR) told Apple on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 to halt iPhone12 sales in France after tests concluded the Apple iPhone 12's Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) or radiofrequency energy absorbed by the body was higher than legally allowed. The European standard for SAR is 4.0 watts per kilogram. ANFR reported accredited labs discovered SAR at 5.74 watts per kilogram during tests simulating when the Apple iPhone 12 was held in the hand or carried in a pants pocket.
